Katavi Wildlife Camp is located in one of the best game areas in Katavi, at Ikuu, on the banks of the Katuma river. It has views towards the biggest plain, Katisunga, situated in the middle of the 3 main plains that form Katavi. Both Lake Katavi and Lake Chada are accessible from camp.
Katavi Wildlife Camp
$ 420 – $ 610
The Katuma River drains the Katisunga plain and flows towards Lake Chada. In the dry season, this is a great place to watch game moving from the plains to the last remaining pools of water in the Katuma, home to vast congregations of hippo. Though best in the dry season, Katavi is also good in the green season, especially for birders.
The park has a similar climate to Ruaha National Park with a long dry season between June and November/December but with a completely contrasting topography with a series of flood plains fringed by woodland, that is teaming with wildlife. You are surrounded by wildlife the moment you arrive!
The Katavi floodplains become lakes during the rainy season and its water and greenery attract wildlife as the surrounding ecosystem dries. Everything at Katavi comes in big herds – Topi, Zebra, Sable, Roan, Giraffe and some of the last great herds of Buffalo in Africa.
