Day 1 – Serian Nkorombo, Masai Mara National Reserve
Met at Nairobi International airport for the drive across town to Wilson Domestic airport. From here you will fly to Masai Mara’s Musiara airstrip, a mere 45-minutes away. Game drive your way to Nkorombo Camp set on the banks of the Mara River within the Masai Mara National Reserve, one of the most wildlife-rich zones in the world. ‘Mara’ in the language of the Masai means ‘spotted’ or ‘dotted’, and indeed, the landscape is littered with game.
Days 2,3,4 – Serian Nkorombo, Masai Mara National Reserve
3 full days in the Mara with your own private 4×4, game spotter and driver guide for company. Here you set your own pace to fully enjoy your stay. Nkorombo is nestled in a stunning little spot on a bend in the Mara River, embodying the laid-back intimacy characteristic of Alex’s camps. Awaken feeling part of a nature documentary amidst lions, zebras and buffalos…And, of course, the Great Migration thundering past and crossing a few metres downstream. This reserve takes its name from the Masai word for ‘dotted’, and indeed the gently rolling grasslands are littered with wildlife. Birds, too, are prolific. A photographer’s dream, it’s the perfect place to start your safari.
Day 5 – Serian Serengeti Lamai, Northern Serengeti
After breakfast, game drive your way back to Musiara airstrip from where you will board your small aircraft for the short flight to Migori airstrip on the Kenya’s side of the border. Clear immigration and transfer by road a short distance to the Tanzanian border to repeat the immigration process. Once done, you will continue your flight to Serengeti’s Lamai airstrip. Game drive your way to Serian’s Lamai mobile camp, your base for the next 5 days.
Days 6,7,8,9 – Serian Serengeti Lamai, Northern Serengeti
4 full days to explore one of the most wildlife rich areas on Africa during the height of the Wildebeest migration. As in Kenya, you will have your own private 4×4 safari vehicle with game spotter and driver guide, leading you to the best game viewing to be had. The Lamai Wedge is a golden triangle defined by the Kenyan border on top, and the Mara River below, and remarkable for the beauty of the landscape as well as for fantastic sightings of predators and black rhino. Our camp is poised for action just above one of the major wildebeest crossing points, promising plenty of drama and action. Away from the river, absorb the mesmerising savannah, and spend quality time seeking out and hanging with animals. Have a picnic under a tree: channel the full-bellied lions and gaze up at the sunlight dappling through the leaves.
Day 10 – Head for Home – Nairobi
Take a slow drive to the airstrip and keep your eyes peeled for one last lion sighting before boarding the flight home via Tarime and Migori. Flight to Nairobi International Airport (NBO) for your journey home.
Optionally – extend your safari to Tanzania’s Coast or the Southern parks.
END OF SAFARI
