Safari Overview
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive and transfer to Tarangire
Spend 2 days exploring Tarangire National Park on private game drives. As a special treat, game drives are also possible after sunset and uncover the night creatures of the park. Often the first sign that something is out there is a pair of eyes shining in the dark; it could be anything: a porcupine, a zorilla, a hyena loping home. This time too is when you learn how quietly an elephant treads. A striking quality of the African bush is the soundtrack: a cacophony of trills, hoots, snorts and rumbles; this amplifies when walking quietly through the bush, in the hope of seeing game up close.
The team has special permission to walk in this park, a total privilege for those seeking a greater connection with the wild.
Day 3: Drive via Randilen WMA and Karatu to Ngorongoro Crater
Entamanu Ngorongoro (meaning ‘circle’ in Maa) is the only place in the world where you can enjoy views into both the Crater and the Serengeti. Offering an unspoiled, unparalleled experience of the Crater, and the land and culture that surrounds it. It is a place to escape to, from which to learn and understand where the Crater fits as part of the wider environment.
Activities include game drives into the Crater, explorations of the surrounding highlands, guided walks, bush picnics, sundowners, and Maasai interactions with neighboring communities.
Day 5: Drive via Endulen to Southern Serengeti
At Kusini, guests can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Serengeti through a variety of unique activities. Daily game drives led by experienced Nomad guides who have been exploring these paths for decades. The region’s diverse wildlife includes lions, elusive leopards, and large herds of elephants. Each game drive is an adventure that navigates the stunning landscapes while keeping an eye out for various bird species and other wildlife that inhabit the area.
In addition to game drives, the camp offers the chance to explore the area on foot. Guests will jump out of the 4×4 and explore the many huge kopjes and surrounding terrain in the company of an armed Nomad walking guide and an armed park ranger.
Day 7: Drive from South to North Serengeti
Lamai Serengeti fulfils the promise of the Serengeti many times over – by car and on foot – in these remote, less-travelled short grass plains. This part of the Serengeti is bisected by the perilous Mara River, where once a year, between July and October, over a million-strong wildebeest and zebra throw themselves across its crocodile-infested waters, heading for where the grass is greener. This makes for spectacular predator and prey viewing on the banks in the late dry season.
What is less known about this part of the Serengeti ecosystem are the very healthy concentrations of lion, leopard and buffalo to be seen all year round. With expert guides and rugged 4x4s, you’ll head out into the plains for big mammal discovery, and fantastic photographic opportunities. When the grass is short and safe to move through, guides lead groups out of the lodge, where small valleys, river lines and rocky kopjes make for frequent changes of scenery…and provide perfect cover for approaching wild animals.
