Encounter Mara
Encounter Mara is located in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, a 50,000-acre area northeast of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Mara Naboisho Conservancy
Naboisho Conservancy offers an exclusive safari experience. The conservancy covers land contributed by over 500 Maasai landowners, and the conservancy fees directly support these landowners, ensuring sustainable livelihoods.
To avoid overcrowding, Mara Naboisho Conservancy limits tourist numbers, meaning visitors often enjoy private wildlife sightings without other vehicles nearby. Initial research shows that Mara Naboisho Conservancy has one of Africa’s highest lion densities. A pride of 22 lions lives near Encounter Mara. The conservancy also hosts large numbers of elephants, giraffes, and other plains animals, plus rare species like wild dogs.
Activities
The private concession at Naboisho Conservancy offers many exciting activities. Guests can enjoy traditional game drives, including off-road drives—a rare opportunity in this region. Night drives are also available, allowing visitors to see nocturnal wildlife.
Walking safaris led by Maasai guides offer an authentic wilderness experience. Cultural activities are available through the conservancy’s partnership with local communities, providing rewarding experiences for both guests and hosts.
Fly camping is another option (except during April) and offers an adventurous way to explore remote areas of the conservancy. Encounter Mara has a wildlife-viewing hide near a watering hole close to the camp.
Guests interested in visiting the Mara Reserve can join a scheduled full-day game drive for $200 per person, which includes park fees.
