Lengai Camp is a classic safari camp set in a relatively remote part of Northern Tanzania. Far from other tourist facilities, it is the closest camp to Oldoinyo Lengai volcano, considered holy by the Maasai tribe. Set on the plains near 7 smaller craters, it faces directly towards the mountain and the Rift Valley Escarpment. This is a small camp of a relatively high standard. It is ideal for those wanting to experience genuine Maasailand and Tanzania’s only Geopark.
The area has some truly stunning scenery and a reasonable amount of scattered wildlife. Other attractions include the local Maasai community, Lake Natron itself hikes up the Engaresero River to a waterfall and a visit to some well preserved prehistoric hominid footprints. Lengai camp is unique in that visitors have access to the entire 1700 square kilometer Lake Natron Game Controlled Area -West .
