A Pure Canvas Safari

This high-end safari visits Arusha, Maswa Game Reserve and Tarangire National Park. Combine some of the most exclusive camps in northern Tanzania. This is safari as it used to be! Explore remote wilderness areas in traditional East African style tents. Starts and ends at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Note: This itinerary will be modified to replace Mbono Camp which closed permanently June 2019.

SEASON

JANUARY – MARCH: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We love this time of the year in Tanzania. Between the short rains in November and the long rains in April/May, it is the warmest time of the year with beautiful days. This was traditionally the high season before the ‘migration fixation’ and now offers great value and wonderful weather. The wildebeest are in the southern parts of the Serengeti to give birth to their young.

APRIL – JUNE: RAINY SEASON

Too often travelers want a guarantee of no rain! But for those who are not afraid of a few showers this is a lovely time to travel. Please note many camps are closed during April and May. Legendary Serengeti Mobile Camp is closed 1 – 15 May. Little Chem Chem is closed 1 April – 31 May.

JULY – SEPTEMBER: PEAK SAFARI SEASON

Days are lovely and warm with cooler nights and normally very little rain. This makes for our peak safari season and therefore we do suggest making your bookings well in advance. Safaris in private concessions such as Mwiba and Maswa are highly sought after as other areas become overcrowded.

OCTOBER – DECEMBER: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

One of our best seasons to visit Tanzania and it is the perfect time for travelers who are not bound by school holidays. These are wonderful months and can be getting hot and dry before the November short rains.

ITINERARY DETAIL

Day 1
Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to Legendary Lodge. 1 night Legendary Lodge.

Taste the local flavours at this beautiful, tranquil coffee plantation in lush gardens. Perfect place to regroup before safari.

Day 2
Fly from Arusha Airport to Mwiba airstrip with Coastal. 4×4 safari to Legendary Serengeti Mobile Camp. 3 nights Legendary Serengeti Mobile Camp, Maswa

The location of Legendary Serengeti Mobile Camp depends on the time of year. For the costing of this itinerary it is in Maswa however please take note of its various locations throughout the year:

DEC to APR the camp is in South Serengeti (Mwiba airstrip).
mid-MAY to mid-JUL the camp is in West Serengeti (Grumeti airstrip).
mid-JUL to NOV the camp is in North Serengeti (Kogatende airstrip).

This is a beautiful, traditional tented camp that moves with the migration within the Serengeti eco-system ensuring prime locations to witness the migration throughout the year. Guests enjoy a private safari vehicle and local guide with unlimited game drives and bush walks (permitted in Maswa only).

Day 5
4×4 safari Legendary Serengeti Mobile Camp to Mbono Tented Camp. 3 nights Mbono Tented Camp.

Exclusive location east of the Kusini Plains and on the banks of the Mbono River. Mbono Tented Camp offers all the benefits of a private concession with easy access to the shortgrass plains on the southern Serengeti.

Day 8
Fly from the Serengeti South to Kuro airstrip, Tarangire with Northern Air scheduled charter. 4×4 safari to Little Chem Chem. 4 nights Little Chem Chem.

A private big game safari experience within elegant yet authentic tented safari accommodation. Explore the private concession by 4×4 or on foot or head out on a conservation safari with the anti-poaching team.

Day 12
Road transfer from Little Chem Chem to Legendary Lodge. Day room at Legendary Lodge.

Use the day room, relax and get ready for international flight home. Road transfer Legendary Lodge to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Depart Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) on your international flight.
