Comment

I have to be honest – Lamai Serengeti is special to me. In 1991, I started working at Ker & Downey Tanzania. On my first day, I joined the manager Tim Corfield, on a whirlwind trip around Serengeti, flying to Serengeti Seronera where we picked up a 4×4 that had been dropped off by a group of departing guests and their guide. That day, Tim drove us to Lobo where the vacated camp was still set and we spent the night there. Early next morning, we set off cross country all the way to Kogatende which up to that point had been off limits due to poaching activity and danger to tourists. The only building there was Kogatende ranger post, more line a fortification.  From there, we headed to the kopjes where Lamai Serengeti is now situated. There was absolutely no question about it. Of all the locations we had come across, none was better than this and it became the site of the first permanent safari camp in the area, one that was involved with setting up. A lot of time has passed and the area has now become a hive of activity, but Lamai still stands out and I send as many guests there as I can. Next stop  on our trip was Serengeti South, straight across the plains once more (now unthinkable!) –  Tom S.
